Opportunity draws South African to Alberta

Malcolm Duncan emigrated from South Africa to Alberta with his two teenage sons in September 2005. Since then, Malcolm has successfully opened Exalibur Truck Accessories locations in the City of Red Deer and the Town of Okotoks, where he and his sons currently live on an acreage.

After researching Australia, New Zealand, the United States and South Africa, Malcolm Duncan's first choice was Alberta, Canada. Political stability, a strong currency and a superb culture were all definite draws to the area for him. He was also impressed with the favourable economic forecast and the country lifestyle the area provided for his family.

The strong economy contributes to a solid manufacturing environment which includes good, quick and reliable service. Alberta's low taxes relative to the rest of Canada also provide the investor with advantages. Labour is more readily accessible in Southern Alberta than in Northern Alberta, where the vibrant oil industry is heavily concentrated. However, all over Alberta the spin-offs of the oil industry are leading to high disposable incomes. As a manufacturer of truck accessories in Canada, Malcolm has benefited from the boost in truck sales which has made Canada the nation with the second largest truck population in the world.
