The Calgary Regional Partnership recognizes water as a valuable resource in building sustainable communities, protecting our environment and managing long term growth in the Calgary Region. Regional Water and Waste Water Servicing is one of three project areas determined by the Calgary Metropolitan Plan (CMP) as "catalysts" for initiating and integrating regional service delivery, infrastructure systems and land use planning.
The CMP identified the conditions for regional water and waste water servicing and provided a set of principles specific to water and waste water servicing. During the development of the CMP, significant work was also done to draft a long-range plan for regional water and waste water infrastructure. Several reports were published recommending infrastructure options and governance principles. To move forward with regional servicing, consistent with the CMP, it was recognized that a first critical step was the development of a governance structure that supports implementation and allows CRP and its members to address a wide array of implementation questions and issues.
